West Ham’s E-Sports player, Sean ‘Dragon’ Allen was in the news for recently for trying to avoid paying a gambling debt.
In May 2016, West Ham became the first UK club to sign up a professional E-Sports player. Allen, who plays under the gaming name ‘Dragonn’ represents the club in FIFA interactive tournaments and has been awarded the number 50 by the club.
Allen finished second in the 2016 Fifa Interactive World Cup to Mohamad Al-Bacha of Denmark. The winner received $20,000. Over 1.2 million players entered the tournament.
It was another player from Denmark, Dani Hagebeuk that embroiled Allen in to this less than honourable situation. The pair had agreed a best of three cash match for £100 but he lost out to the Dane 2-1.
Hagebeuk offered Allen the opportunity to carry on playing for £50 a match but he went silent and with no £100 winnings forthcoming he gave the Englishman 12 hours to pay up by Paypal.
Al-Bacha also happens to be a good friend of Hagebeuk and took to Twitter to out the welching Allen.
