Sorel Mizzi, the online poker pro from Canada has once again found himself in trouble, this time with PokerStars. PokerStars have imposed a two year ban on the poker pro for accessing the poker site through the use of a VPN to hide his location and play illegally from within the United States. By using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) he is able to hide is actual geo-ip and play through a different computer geographically elsewhere.
The is not the first time he has courted trouble with PokerStars, he received a 3 month ban for multi-accounting back in 2008.
Mizzi, with reported earnings of $11 million is also banned from FullTilt poker after purchasing and taking over the account of another who was playing in the latter stages of a $1 million guaranteed tournament. Mizzi went on to win that tournament but when it was found out he was using someone else’s account his winnings were confiscated and shared out among the other players.
The controversial character is also skilled at cheating in live games; he was accused by John Racener of Base Dealing (from the bottom of the pack) at the 2010 World Series of Poker during a heads-up Chinese poker game.
While he now faces a two year ban from PokerStars, it’s very unlikely the adaptable Mizzi will be locked out of the poker site if he really wants to play.
