While a $10K challenge for a professional poker player might not seem that big of a deal, especially for a player like Doug Polk who would probably buy-in for much bigger. It is different story if you are starting out with a bank-roll of just $100 and a target of 6 months to do it.
Polk has insisted to stick to strict bank-roll management and start out on the micro-limit games on the 2 / 4 cent tables. Polk is also streaming his challenge live on Twitch that featured a blurry eyed 19 hour session; catch it live on dougpolk.tv.
Polk’s challenge didn’t start too well and after four days of play he was down to just $85 and at one point was down to just $40 having earlier being in profit on $119, playing on www.wsop.com. On a bank-roll of just $40, Polk dropped down to the lowest stakes possible on the 1 / 2 cent tables to recover much of his early losses.
After day 8 of his challenge Polk was in profit, up to $178 after a long session of grinding on the 2 / 4 cent tables.
At the time of writing on day 9, after some multi-table tournament action his bank-roll is now up to $551.
Polk isn’t the first to have attempted such a challenge, with WSOP legend Chris Ferguson completing it in 2006, in nine months. Ferguson started with no money at all, playing in free-rolls before moving in to cash games and amassing $10,000.
