A croupier at the SkyCity Casino in Auckland, New Zealand was able to steal over $45,000 with the help of associates.
The employee, Chandra Reddy, 34 from Mt Roskill facilitated the theft along with two friends that involved him over-paying winning bets. When his friends had winning bets he would discreetly hide $500 chips within the $5 chips to conceal them.
His friends, Hirenkumar Amin, 24 and Rajini Kanthreddy Suskandia, 26, knew exactly when he worked at the casino and would play exclusively at the tables he operated.
The theft took place over the festive period and was only discovered when the CCTV was being reviewed. It is alleged that the trio defrauded the casino out of $45,670.
Reddy, pleaded guilty to 16 charges of theft but escaped a prison sentence along with his friends.
His lawyer, Scott Bricknell stated that financial pressures including a new baby and financial responsibilities to family in India had led him to commit the crime. In an apology read out by his lawyer he stated that he had created an 'uncomfortable situation' in breaking the trust of his employers and accepted the embarrassing consequences.
