Poker stars have confirmed that they are investigating a Russian and Kazakhstan based poker bot ring that have been cleaning up on the $0.50/$1.00 and $1.00/$2.00 Pot Limit Omaha tables.
The group who are estimated to have earned over $1.5 million using the artificial intelligence were first detected on Pokerstars but it has also been uncovered that they operated on Full Tilt and 888Poker.
The scam was only uncovered after posters on the poker forum TwoPlusTwo shared their concerns with others on the forum, after which Pokerstars investigated.
It is thought that the poker bots were also sharing their card information when playing at the same tables to gain an even greater advantage over the players at the table.
Players at Pokerstars have begun to receive refunds from the site, but claim they are small compared to the losses incurred against the bots.
They give refunds from the funds they are able to seize and then they calculate what was your exposure to the violators. For obvious reasons, botters keep the bare minimum in their accounts. My view is they caught more accounts than was reported and that is why players who never logged hands on PLO50 and 100 got refunds, too. Would be interesting to know for example which high volume zoom accounts stopped playing last few months.
Pokerstars are still investigating the suspected cheaters and have advised anyone with any further information not to post suspected screen names on forums as this could scare off the individuals.
